Katchi Kapshi

The Golightly Sport Horses string of competition horses is a string of one - Katchi!  But, he's pretty darn good, and I love riding him!  So, one is okay with me.  A nice thing about having one horse is they get your 100% focus - but a bad thing about one horse is they get your 100% focus!  Good and bad, I've made Katchi what he is.  I purchased him as a 5 year old in 2006.  Under a different name (Sportin' Merle), he had raced 12 times (as a 3 and 4 year old) - earning just under $12,000.  It was time for a new career. He spent a couple of months learning about riding rings and colored poles, and then enjoyed life in a field for about a year.  When I picked him up - fat and bored - little did I know how much work it would be to develop this cute little OTTB, nicknamed "Squirrely Merley", into the star I'm riding now!  The first order of business was a new name - I selected the Korean phrase, Katchi Kapshi, because it means - we go together - at the time, I didn't realize just how perfect his new name would be, eventually!  Below are a few pictures of Katchi, then and now. You can view his recent USEA competition record here.

Check out the November 2011 article about Katchi and me on OffTrackThoroughbreds.com, "A day in Kabul leads to racehorse, joyous life".

October 2006 - when I first went to look at "Squirrely Merley" as a sales horse, he was fat and lazy (with a reputation for being suddenly squirrely!) - look at his eye in this photo - totally unaware of the fun I had planned for his future!
