Spring 2006 - During my deployment to Afghanistan with the Department of Defense, I attended a Buzkashi practice match in Kabul.  Buzkashi is a bit like Rugby, on horseback, with a dead calf serving as the ball!  Afterwards, I was invited to ride one of the horses - I was the first woman to get on a horse at their stable, so the Afghan men were very intrigued!

November 2006 - I visited the wild Przewalski (Takhi) horse preserve in Mongolia.  The Przewalski horse has 66 chromosomes compared to 64 chromosomes in the domestic horse.
